Meet Jordan- Waboba's Director of Fun!
Jordan Sullivan
Title: Director of Fun
Office Location: Charleston, SC USA
What do you do at Waboba and when did you start?
I first started at Waboba in 2011 and managed our social media. Nowadays, as Director of Fun, I manage our brand, marketing, and creative departments. I do a little bit of everything, and of course, I still make an appearance in our goofy videos!
What do you love most about working on the creative team?
I love being given a product concept and being tasked with coming up with a name, design, and story about it. It’s fun watching the products come to life!
What’s your favorite piece of content/marketing project you’ve worked on? There’s been so many! Our Moon Ball Pop Sounds video is epic because it was filmed in London during the pandemic lockdown, so it looks like the Moon Balls took over the empty streets.
But my favorite was from back in 2012 when we hosted a trickshot contest with How Ridiculous on YouTube. I loved seeing all the creative ways people used our water bouncing balls for trickshots at the beach/lake, at the pool, or in their backyard with a cooler filled with water.
What's your favorite product?
I’m a sucker for the classic Bobe - the Waboba Pro.
Send us a picture of your desk! What are some must-haves for your workstation?
My desk is full of product samples — toys in progress. So pardon the mess! My must-haves are a cup of coffee, my notebook, weekly planner, and post it notes.
What’s your favorite song to listen to when you work?
I don’t like to listen to music when I work. But I’m also partially deaf, so I prefer the quiet. Ha!
What did you do before you landed at Waboba?
I had my own social media/marketing company and was a consultant for various brands.
What’s one fun thing that’s different about working at Waboba than other places you’ve worked?
Playing outside is part of the job.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A dog. Glad that didn’t work out.
What’s your secret talent no one knows about?
I’m very good at untying tiny knots.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
To control the weather, but without changing the season. I think it would be cool to be able to blow away clouds or make it thunderstorm if you want a lazy day.
Tell us something about you that most people don’t know.
I was born on the bathroom floor, because I was an eager beaver.
At Waboba, we always aim to #keeplifefun. How do you stay a big kid at heart?
By making people laugh every day and finding humor in everything.
How would you describe the culture at Waboba?
Fun (duh), playful and collaborative. We always think about our Wabobians and how we can make life and our products more fun/better for them. We’re very solution-oriented.
If you could tell your 12-year-old self something, what would it be?
Don’t hide who you truly are.
What’s your favorite way to play and stay active?
I walk both my dogs separately so that’s a workout in itself, but my favorite way is to ride my bike at the beach while my wife surfs or to rollerblade at the park. I just got a paddleboard so I’m excited to whip that out soon!
What’s a quote or song lyric you live by?
It’s a long one by Rainer Maria Rilke, but it’s so true.
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. The point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then gradually, without noticing it, you will live along some distant day into the answer.”
When did you grow up and what was the best part about that time period?
I grew up in the late 80s/90s. Summers were the best. We had no internet or cell phones or streaming services. We just showed up at each other’s houses and had to create our entertainment if we were bored. But most times that just meant playing outside all day. Our parents only cared that we made it home for dinner, or called from a payphone to check in.
What was the first concert you ever attended?
Blink 182
Where on earth are you hoping to travel next?
South America, the Caribbean, Costa Rica (again) or Italy - whatever happens first!
Would you rather walk on water or walk on the moon?
Walk on water. I find outer space terrifying.
What would be your last dying meal?
A Turkey Diablo Primo Hoagie, Herr’s Potato Chips, a pickle, and a Coca-Cola.
What is one thing you cannot live without?
Simple — dogs.
Where is your favorite place you've traveled to so far?
Öland, Sweden - a small island off the east coast of Sweden - the birthplace of Waboba!
What’s something on your bucket list you hope to check off?
To snorkel in the clearest waters my eyes have ever seen.
